I was looking for a latch for my basement door for my 100 year old home to prevent my little one from wandering down there. I wanted something that was both functional and blended in with the look of the existing antique hardware. (Side note: I use a doorstop on the other side of the door when I am down in the basement to keep him out).This does just the trick, and I have installed it on my laundry and pantry door as well.Thanks to the gentleman who answered my question about the pilot holes. My tips for install are:- Painter tape the area for drilling to the ensure no wood splitting, cracking.- Pilot hole is 3/32 inch diameter- Remove tape.- I would offset the two pieces. You are moving an “arm” in an arc but the bar that it fits into is perpendicular. So you need to account for the space of the angle. So I put the piece with arm slightly higher than the static piece so that there is more wiggle room when you move the arm. I’m not sure if this would have fixed the issue with the other customer having to saw off half of the bar, but that addressed it for me.- if possible, put the piece with the arm on the door and the static piece on the door frame. Helps with not having a lot of protrusion otherwise coming off a door frame if you did it the opposite way.Hope that makes sense. Bottom line is play with the spacing between the two pieces and be precise on the alignment. I see how the washers may be needed to address natural door gaps, etc.

Although small, making the tolerance for placement rather limited. it did work satisfactorily..

This is a strong lock that won't fail. You are only limited by how strong the screws are. Good quality for your money.

We couldn't figure out how to put a safety lock on our front door. Slide bolts would not work due to the angle. This functioned perfectly. Easy to install, beautiful red copper color that matches brown or bronze. Screws went into an aluminum door, so good quality. Overall, very pleased!

Exactly what we needed to secure our glass storm door from our toddler.It wouldn’t fit over the lip of the door frame at first, but we added two washers and it works perfectly now.We also decided to use longer screws in the actual door frame.

I used only one side of this latch on my sliding barn door for my bathroom. With the design of the door frame, I wasn't able to use both sides. For the other side, I used a 'large decorative ring' over the latch. Love the bronze colour. It works perfectly to latch the door. After I screwed it down, I 'opened' the latch part a bit more and the metal wasn't too hard or soft to alter it slightly.

Worked great on a barn door in a tight spot.
