SLAP YA MAMACajun Seasoning Blend, Original, 25 Pound

Noting that most Cajun spice blends are salt and cayenne, only occasionally having a pepper blend and/or other goodies in them, the Slap Ya Mama stands out from the others that we've tried and is our go-to favorite that we use on a daily basis. I really don't know what the pepper blend in this spice mix might be, but it's perfect in our opinion.... not too salty, not too harshly hot with no flavor profile that comes from using a blend of peppers, etc. That said, we're not a fan of the 'hot' (red label) version ... just the yellow. We find the level of spice to be just right, and we tend towards liking things spicier than most. If we happen to be in the mood for more fire and smoke, we'll add cayenne to the dish, but that's a rare event... we enjoy the spiciness if the yellow label Slap Ya Mama as-is.

I use this stuff in (almost) everything I cook. From Bacon & Eggs (yes, that’s what I said), to Smashed ‘Taters, to Pot Roast, to Fried Chicken and Fish, to Soups, to Casseroles, to Steamed Veggies, to Salads and Salad Dressings - heck I’m not above sprinkling a little sparkle into homemade ice cream. Anywhere you want a little sparkle. You’ll see folks get that face just before they ask: “Gawd that’s good! What’s in this!?” But don’t you tell ‘em... (they’ll think your crazy!) meanwhile, they keep tastin’ And tastin and guessin’ and askin’ and tastin’ some more. The trick is to know how much to use for each food type; but you have to figure that out for yourself as you go along. This is a staple-Seasoning in my kitchen cupboards.

I first became aware of this product at a picnic where a friend (from Louisana) used it to season his fish and shrimp before deep frying. The taste was so flavorful and the name alone is hilarious! Fast forward years later, and I see this very spice on the kitchen shelf (as background props) on an episode of "Big Bang Theory" and thought hey....I remember that! So I bought it and have been using it in place of seasoned salt. Sprinkle cautiously as it can tend to be a bit salty if you are too heavy handed when seasoning. A little shake will do ya!

This stuff makes plain food yummy. Before baking or roasting we throw it on chicken, potatoes and brusell sprouts. (We cut the brussel sprouts in half and use a very small amount of oil in the pan. When we get it right, they are a semi-crunchy snack we are as happy to eat as popcorn.) Actually, you could sprinkle this stuff on just about anything. My loves it so much husband sprinkles extra on his after the food has already been cooked with it.

A friend of mine brought me some of this from a trip to Louisiana and I have fallen in love with it. It's a nice blend of spiciness! I have a Cajun Chicken Pasta recipe that calls for Cajun Seasoning & I have been using this. I just recently ran out of it and I have been unable to find it in the local stores. This container is much larger than the one I had, so I am excited to know that I am not going to be running out anytime soon.

Danger. Highly addictive. Don't start using it because you won't be able to stop. Just forget about buying salt and pepper, this is all you need. Eggs and hashbrowns for breakfast are snappy. On a salad, in tuna and mayo, as seasoning for homemade soups...you name it, just try it. I wish I had never started! :)

This stuff is amazing on roisserie chickens, wings, steaks, and burgers. It's just an all around great cooking spice. I dont ever plan to be without it again

It is a deceptively simple set of spices, but extremely effective and very versatile and fun. Went on vacation in New Orleans with friends and one of the times we picked this up to taste up our eggs in the morning and I was the one who got to take it home. It has become a staple for me, ever since. Even though I use it quite frequently, it still lasted me a few years and the flavor didn't seem to deteriorate any.I've got three lazy tricks to generally successful dishes and this is one of them.I've no idea why I only seem to find hot or white pepper Slap Ya Mama in the stores around me in NorCal. I've never tried the hot, because I've always found using enough of this to already be too hot for those I cook for. I'd prefer to add some fresh peppers or alternate hot sauce at that point. You can easily make mild to hot dishes with the basic original.I've used it not just for "Cajun" or southern or general kick, but also as part of Mexican, Italian, even curry.I've had fancier and more expensive Cajun blends, but those extra ingredients can always be added to this, but they can't be removed from them.I personally usually cook with it, but of course some people also use this like salt and pepper (which are in it). Which those I generally cook with, but don't add to anything after the fact for extra seasoning.

Love the name. Way, way too much salt. No need for that much salt. Really ruined my dinner. Need to reconsider the recipe. I tossed it after one use.

Honest to God review here: The seasoning is PURE salt... pure salt... yeah a little heat, but ZERO flavor. I'm telling you and I don't have a dog in the fight... BUY Luzianne.
